Laina Martin is a jazz and classically trained violinist. Laina moved to Michigan from Philadelphia to study jazz with Vincent York, a renowned saxophonist based in Ann Arbor. During this apprenticeship, Laina performed in a jazz combo, learned theory, and did music technician work.
Jazz and improvisation have given Laina the tools to express music in various genres outside of classical music. Laina desires to bring her training in the differing genres she’s studied and fuse them into the Suzuki method so that children can learn diverse ways to express music on the violin.
Locally, Laina has played at the Lions halftime show with Big Sean and the Detroit Pistons game as well.
